The use of metal as a roofing material has increased dramatically in the last ten years or so in both the residential and commercial sectors. Owners of business establishments such as office buildings, restaurants and retail locations find metal roofing desirable because it is so durable, as well as the fact that it does well in virtually all types of weather.
Building owners have also discovered metal roofing to be very versatile, enabling it to be used in a variety of situations. The technology has progressed, allowing metal to give the appearance of a number of different roofing styles such as tiles, shingles and slate (but without the weight of those roofing materials). Those that are interested in being "green" like the fact that metal is recyclable and thus friendly to the environment. Another advantage is that metal is fireproof, which sometimes means lower property insurance premiums.
There are some disadvantages, however. This is where metal roof coatings come in as a great solution (as opposed to replacing the entire roof). The fact is that metal does rust, particularly as the roof ages. With a constant exposure to the elements, the roof will inevitably develop rust spots, which of course lead to leaks. This is something you need to take care of as soon as you are aware of it; a roof leak tends to get worse, not better, as time passes.
Metal roof coatings eliminate the problem of rust, and they will stop leaks completely. Business owners love this because the solution is so simple in several ways:
- No need to replace the entire roof – A roof replacement can disrupt your business, and it’s expensive. This allows you to avoid that inconvenience and expense.
- No need for tear-off – Metal roof coatings are applied right on the current roof, so the additional step of tearing off the defective section of roofing is not necessary.
- Very little additional weight added to the roof – No additional stress is added to the structure.
- Quick, easy application – It really doesn't get any easier!
In addition to the benefits already mentioned, there is another substantial advantage: energy efficiency. An older metal roof tends to be rather inefficient in terms of insulation and heat radiation. When this additional layer of protection is added, the building stays cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. This of course means your AC or heating system doesn't have to work as hard, thereby lowering your utility bills.
Some property owners are concerned about the noise sometimes associated with a metal roof. Some metal roofs are louder than others, depending on the structure of the building, quantity of insulation, etc. That problem is also solved - one of the metal roof coatings we offer is an elastomeric rubber, which absorbs virtually all of the noise that may come from the roof area during a hard rain.
